Meerlust Estate is a historic producer of world-class South African wine, established in 1756 south of Stellenbosch, close to the coast. The winery today is a historic manor house, classic wine cellar, family cemetery, dovecote and bird sanctuary which makes Meerlust a unique place to grow vines. The name itself means "pleasure of the sea" as the manor house sits on a granite outcrop only five kilometers away from False Bay. During the warmer months, the vineyards benefit from fresh ocean breezes.
Their flagship ‘Rubicon’ is based on the Bordelais varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Since its inception in 1980, Rubicon has been seen as the pinnacle of its style in South Africa, and has collected countless domestic and international awards over the years.
Their sole white wine is the Meerlust Chardonnay, first produced in 1995. Produced from only estate grown grapes, the wine is a sumptuous barrel fermented and matured example of the variety.
