Frankland Estate

Buried deep in the heart of Western Australia’s most isolated wine region, Frankland Estate is as much apart of its natural landscape as it is a winery.

Located 250km east of Margaret River and inland from the wild and picturesque Great Southern coastline, they take their role as custodians of land very seriously. Having invested a lot of time and energy into minimising our impact on the ecological balance of the region, nurturing the micro-biology of our soils and supporting causes to improve the health and future prosperity of our local fauna and flora is key to our wine production.

Today Frankland Estate is a tight-knit family affair. Elizabeth and Hunter and their small families live on the property and they all work together with a small, yet hardworking and enthusiastic team to produce distinctive and flavoursome wines.

Their commitment to sustainable farming is what informs our winemaking practices. They have learned many hard-lessons and honed our skills over 29 vintages on our home vineyards. The consistency of depth, complexity and intensity of flavour in their wines has reinforced belief in this approach, and amplified their respect for an extraordinary natural environment.

Region

Western Australia

Australia's western state, aptly named ‘Western Australia’, spans around a third of the continent. Although, while the state is huge, its grape output is minute, accounting for only 5% of Australia's output. But what the region lacks in numbers, it makes up for in quality - boasting some of Australia’s finest wineries.

Pretty much all of Western Australia’s wine regions are situated on the continents south western tip, taking advantage of the cooler climate and considering the size of the state, it’s no surprise that there’s nine of them; Swan District, Perth Hills, Peel, Geographe, Blackwood Valley, Pemberton, Manjimup, Great Southern and Margaret River.

Each region is unique and stands out in its own way, yet one sits head and shoulders above all others - Margaret River. The location and climate allows vintners in the region to achieve near perfect results with very little effort. In fact Margaret River has been turning heads since a little after 1967, the date the first vines were planted. Margaret river is renowned for many varieties, but we are particularly fond of its Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Riesling and Semillon / Sauvignon Blanc blends.
