Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is a red wine grape variety, that comes from the Burgundy region in France. Its name is comes from ‘pine’ thanks to its tightly packed grape clusters (like a pine cone). And ‘black’ due to its very dark skins. Tightly packed clusters make it susceptible to various viticultural hazards. It’s a tricky one! Pinot Noir is used to make red wines around the world. But its light tannins also work well for making Champagne and other sparkling white wines. Although it’s a very ancient variety, it’s popular among New World regions such as the United States, Australia and New Zealand.
