Merlot Wine

The name Merlot comes from merle, the French word for blackbird, a nod to the fruit’s deep, dark colour. Believed to have first been used in winemaking in 1784 by a Bordeaux official in the Libournais region, it quickly gained popularity becoming one of the most popular reds on the market – famed for its softness and fleshiness. Low to medium tannins make Merlot fantastic by itself or in a blend with a sterner, high-tannin variety, such as Cabernet Sauvignon.
