Craggy Range Sauvignon Blanc

Lovely aromas of citrus blossom, lime, jasmine and the faintest hint of fresh honey in the Craggy Range Sauv Blanc. Subtle flavours of fresh lime and grapefruit are balanced with a fine chalky texture that is reminiscent of the stones and limestone within the vineyard. Finishes dry, fresh and long.

Why we love it: Martinborough elegance so graceful it waltzed its way to a Silver Decanter Wine Award 2021!

WINE PRODUCER

‘Craggy Range’ is a family owned New Zealand winery that began in 1998 and is now one of the most well respected and recognisable brands in the country. Located in the prestigious region of Gimblett Gravels, Hawke’s Bay, ‘Craggy Range’ was the first winery in the Southern Hemisphere that specialised in Single Vineyard winemaking, sourcing the very best grapes from New Zealand’s top winegrowing regions, planting on green fields and bare land to ensure a focus on quality from the word go.

History of Craggy Range

‘Craggy Range’ was started by Terry Peabody and is now a complete family endeavour with members working in all different aspects of the business. The Peabody’s are a devoted family who want to see the ‘Craggy Range’ Legacy live on for all future generations, which is why Terry placed the winery in a 1000 year trust! We commend and thank Terry’s foresight … for completely selfless reasons of course.

Thinking ahead is a common philosophy within the Craggy Range family as the trust is also designed to set up generational guardianship of the land, so that not only with the land stay preserved, our glasses will stay full. Sustainability is at the forefront of what ‘Craggy Range’ does, allowing them to support their needs for today while providing an economic, biological and environmentally-minded future for tomorrow.

Craggy Range Wine Portfolio

‘Craggy Range’s’ wine portfolio consists of three collections. ‘The Family Collection’, ‘The Appellation’, The iconic ‘Prestige Collection’ as well as limited release wines.

The family collection consists of our favourites, the Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Syrah, Pinot Noir, a Bordeaux Blend and staff favourite the Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay. The ‘Prestige’ collection showcases the ‘Le Sol Syrah’, ‘Sophia Red Blend’ and the ‘Aroha Pinot Noir’. The reputation of the ‘Craggy Range’ portfolio is synonymous with their quality of wines and attention to detail.

WINE REGION

Martinborough Wine

Although a small region, there’s no doubt about the fact Martinborough packs a punch. Producing some of New Zealand’s most acclaimed wines and garnering a large following. The regions first vines were planted back in 1883. It wasn’t until 1970 that heads started to turn and Martinborough was competing on the world stage.

Martinborough Wine Selection

The region features a diverse selection of wines. But the silt loam and gravelly sub-soils of the Martinborough Terrace ensure pinot noir and sauvignon blanc grapes flourish.

Subregions

The areas three sub-regions; Martinborough, Masterton and Gladstone and have similar grape varieties planted, but the differing terroir of each brings out unique flavours. The Wairarapa makes up 3% of New Zealand’s total production. This number is contributed to the fact vineyard yields in the area below the national average, this alone is a large contributor to the regions success.

Location

While Martinborough is a small colonial village with many of the producers in the area being family owned and run. Only a short drive north of New Zealand’s’ capital city Wellington, the area is well situated as has earned the reputation as the wine hub of the Wairarapa. Gladstone is a little south of Masterton, Wairarapa’s largest town and is one of the fastest growing wine regions in the country. Luckily for us, it has plenty of room to grow!

Climate of the Area

Wairarapa is one of the coolest and driest areas in the north island. With climate and soil conditions similar to that of Burgundy, it’s no surprise that the wines produced in the area are some of New Zealand’s finest.
